From Tragedy to Triumph – A Review
From Tragedy to Triumph by Mary Jaksch is an extraordinarily beautiful eBook that details concrete steps toward positive life changes while sharing very intimate stories of those who succeeded. Don’t let the title fool you – this book should be required reading before, during and after tragedy. In other words, if you are breathing right now, you should read this book!
Filled with vivid, thoughtfully-chosen photographs, From Tragedy to Triumph starts in crisis, explaining how the map of our life can change in an instant. While I was reading this section, I thought, “This rings true, but it certainly doesn’t apply to my life right now.” Far from being in the midst of tragedy, at this exact moment I am loving life.
I kept reading.
The next section explored the process of acceptance, and shared examples of how to break through denial. Good stuff there, I thought.
Next, a section about presence. Mary writes, “On our healing journey, moments of presence are points of rest and renewal.” That’s where she hooked me. Moments of presence are the sweet spots of life, not just on our healing journey. I suddenly realized that this book, ostensibly about tragedy, was quietly telling me how I could make tomorrow better than today, even when today is pretty darn good.
I love surprises like that! I devoured the rest of the book, through the steps of action, forgiveness and integration and then started at the beginning again. I’ve read it three times and I’m sure there will be a fourth.
